Title: "Lessons Learned in Systems Design"
Abstract: Innovate E-Commerce will participate in "Lessons Learned in
System Design," a panel discussion focusing on the state of North Carolina's
current MMIS replacement implementation. MMIS implementations are commonly
a combination of transfer system and modifications. The degree of fit
of a transfer system determines much of the system effort, timing, software
design practices, and other factors. North Carolina was moving from
a decades-old system with a great deal of embedded knowledge to a new
system and vendor. Plus the state was taking control of its MMIS solution.
The panelists will use their "Lessons Learned" in a current MMIS implementation
to explore the issues of fit vs. requirements and the associated software
development practices and design. Panelists will explore questions such
as: What is the relationship between an implementation and a software
development effort? What should states expect in vendor system development
practices? What is the importance of design delieverables to state control?
What is the role of independent verification and validation (IV&V) in
the development effort and vendor management? How do systems analysis
and design results affect latter phases of the project? Audience members
will gain valuable insight into successfully managing and implementing
an MMIS replacement--beginning to end, macro to nano.

Title: Goodbye "IT Projects," Hello "Business
Projects"
On the one hand, you have the IT department. On the other hand, you
have business units. And that's the heart of the problem. They need
to be working hand-in-hand to solve business problems and create business
opportunities through information technology. How are some companies
managing to "close the gap" between IT and business units?
What are the toughest challenges? How are they managing to bring heads
together, to find a common language, to work toward common goals? Who
is best qualified to spearhead such efforts? And what are the particular
steps to finally aligning your IT with your business goals? Through
case history examples, Karen Puchalsky, CEO and co-founder of Innovate
E-Commerce, enterprise solution consultants, will reveal specific strategies
to achieving leadership, unity, partnership, and successful results.

how state governments, educational institutions
and businesses have met the challenges inherent in extending their

Title:
“IT Legacy Applications: Put
Them to Work, Not to Pasture”
Abstract: Are your new e-business plans too demanding for your
applications? It’s tempting to just scrap those legacy applications
and move on to third party software packages with enhanced real-time

in a down economy, maximizing old technology may be the only option.
Innovate E-Commerce Inc., business-to-business e-commerce consultants,
has successfully tackled many legacy migrations, particularly to web
enablement, successfully integrating the supply chain partners. Innovate
will shed light on evaluating and planning legacy modernizations, and
include real-life examples of customers who have ended up with applications
"like new" or "re-tooled" that meet current and future business objectives.
